Coinme hires Chief Compliance Officer Antonio Alvarez, former Coinbase VP of Compliance
Coinme hires Antonio Alvarez with sights on global expansion of its ATM network and full suite of digital asset fintech products and services.
SEATTLE – October 2X, 2019 – Coinme, the licensed fintech company powering a network of digital currency ATMs, kiosks and private client advisors, announced today that Antonio Alvarez has joined as Chief Compliance Officer. Antonio was formerly the VP of Compliance for Coinbase, based out of San Francisco, CA, and has had various leadership positions in the payments and remittance industries with Western Union, Visa and American Express.

This comes after the recent announcement of Coinme’s $1.5 million funding round to invest further in their national Point of Sale network leadership position, which includes ATMs, by the venture capital fund, Ripple Labs based in San Francisco, CA. Earlier this year, Coinme announced their partnership with local company, Coinstar, making Coinme the largest Bitcoin ATM network in the United States.
Chief Compliance Officer Antonio Alvarez will be leading unlocking the global regulatory landscape, as a world expert in digital currency global regulation and compliance. While at Coinbase, Alvarez led the day-to-day operations and onboing Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions Compliance programs. Prior to Coinbase, Antonio held Regulatory Compliance roles as the Chief Compliance Officer at Yapstone, an online payment facilitator specialized in rental and vacation rental payments online, or as the Compliance Vice President for the Western Union Digital business, responsible for building and managing an effective Digital compliance program globally. Prior to Western Union, Antonio held payment roles at Visa Inc. and at American Express, where he held positions of increasing responsibility in the U.S. and Australia. Antonio is ACAMS certified and holds a Masters in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and a Bachelor’s degree in International Business from San Diego State University.
Antonio Alvarez will be instrumental in helping Coinme significantly expand its footprint globally. The company will obtain additional licenses to operate nationwide in the U.S. and expand to key international markets. Coinme will continue to lead the industry to serve the current and growing retail demand for using digital currencies for payments, remittances, and as a trusted store of value.
